What is Neurofeedback Training?
A noninvasive, cognitive-behavioral technology called Brain Mapping/Qeeg is one of the medical world’s best-kept secrets that no longer belongs in the research laboratory or solely for the treatment of diseases, and disorders. The applications for brain mapping and neurofeedback for overall brain health are so widespread that it should be at the forefront of any behavioral or wellness-based treatment.
The technology used for brain mapping and neurofeedback treatment allows us to see how the brain is working by observing the behavior of brain cells which communicate through a constant storm of electrical impulses.
QEEG technology allows those electrical impulses to be translated into brain waves of different frequencies. Different brainwave frequencies are responsible for working together to achieve different tasks such as focusing, relaxing, or complex thought. This brainwave activity impacts both cognitive functioning and emotional functioning. A brain’s level of function can be described by different parameters represented in a Qeeg/Brain Map.
Different Applications of Neurofeedback Training
- Optimal performance
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Feeling overwhelmed
- Sleep
- Focus
- Mood Elevation
- Regulating your emotions
Why Choose Neurofeedback?
The thinking self, meaning the collective skills that we refer to as cognition, and the emotional self, meaning our moods, are intricately intertwined in all aspects of our daily lives. When the thinking brain is not communicating effectively with the emotional brain, the resulting behaviors can be dysfunctional, maladaptive, and even dangerous. By the same token, when there are unstable levels of arousal in the brain, for instance too much or too little production of certain brain waves, we experience symptoms of fatigue, anxiety, attention challenges, poor motivation, depression, cognitive fogginess, and disorganization.
How Does Neurofeedback Help?
Through advanced technology, we can analyze brain waves to determine patterns of activity and arousal in the brain.
Brainwave activity provides information about levels of alertness, concentration, emotional states, and cognitive processing. It also provides information about how the different pathways in the brain communicate with each other while processing incoming information from the world.
Understanding how efficiently these pathways are communicating provides a window into the speed and quantity of information being sent between different regions of the brain. When a brain is overwhelmed because this information processing is too fast or too slow, an individual can become anxious, moody, or overwhelmed. They may experience cognitive fogginess and lack of motivation. Through neurofeedback, we can change the way brainwaves behave to improve and balance levels of arousal and the efficiency with which these pathways communicate. This, in turn, leads to improvements in the way a person is feeling, behaving and performing in their job, school and in personal relationships.
